09 January Issue of Travel China Monthly Pick -Shanghai (i)

1. Indoor sightseeing: The best museum in town

Shangahi might not be the most cultural city, but Shanghai Museum is no doubt one of the best museums in China.  With a collection of 120,000 precious works of art and the best Chinese bronze collection in the world, it is a museum one should visit many times. The highlights of the collection include some exquisite buddhist sculptures and Chinese furniture from Ming and Qing dynasties.

2. Holiday shopping fun with Chinese characteristics!

Shanghai Chenghuang(local god) temple was originally constructed in the Ming dynasty. Now the surrounding area is covered with shops selling suveniers and gift items.  Probably the only place in Shanghai to remind you that you are, after all, in China.  So be prepare for the crowd!

 3. High tea in a cosy afternoon.

Next to the Huangpu River, M on the Bund sits on the top floor of a 1920s building. The terrace offers the splendid view of the river and modern skyline of Pudong.  It is a perfect place to spend some quality time with friends over a delicate setting of English high tea… hmm, life is good…

You are definitely right about the crowds, it is scary. I will stay out of the pedestrian area near the Yu Garden and do my shopping on main streets when you can still see traffic.
